MESSAGE from CHARLIE

This is proving to be an interesting summer! Everything seems to have only one direction: up! The price of feed continues to just go up and up! Our pricing will increase as we enter the fall months. Of course we all know and can appreciate the election in November.  My father, as he grew older, used to say to me that he could not understand all that was taking place around him. Being the young college grad I would fire back that it was simply “Progress”. Today, if to be honest, I’m no longer sure!

Bobwhite Quail are ready now for the season. Some of you have already been in tuning up that young pup or keeping the fires lit under the older generation.

Truth be known, many of us (myself included) need to just get out in the field to get back into shape or just keep those walking muscles tuned up so when the fall season rolls around with the crisp morning air, we can keep up with our four legged companion. Simply give Janet a call (email works best!) or myself, we will set it up for you.

We have kept busy with the events here at the “Hideaway”. Janet, continues to email out to most of you folks upcoming events. I would like to emphasize  one event :“The Summer Hideaway Picnic”. This is YOUR event to bring your family out to an old fashion PICNIC. We furnish the pig and pig trimmings but we need you to help us clean him up! So set aside August 9th and come on down to the farm and join us. Give Janet a call and let her know that you can make it!

Enjoy the rest of the summer, trust me; it will be over before you realize it! See you all at the Picnic!!!!!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!!   Finally, it’s going to be cooler and hunting season is upon us again.  The old Bird Shooter (BS’r) has been swimming and running me and old Daffy Donovan to get us in shape for the season.  I think Donovan will be doing more of the “heavy lifting” this year.  I am going to relax and focus on my writing career.

We usually get a chance or two to chase birds before the Youth Hunt (21 September this year).  I may go out for that one or the “Retired but Still in the Game” (4 October) where my stately pace will be most appreciated.

I think that the old BS’r and Donovan will be going up to the Cayuga Lake blind this weekend to make any needed repairs, improvements and to “flag” it (cut weeds and stick them on the blind).  I could handle a hunt there before the water gets too cold.

Anyhow, we are all looking forward to putting on our hunting faces and getting out and walking around as soon as the weather and the calendar cooperate.
