Duck Shooting at WPH

During the year, Whispering Pines Hideaway will hold Preserve Released duck shoots at our Leach Road facilities.  Individual and Group releases can be arranged.  Both large groups (10 - 15 shooters) and small groups ( 2-6 shooters) can be accommodated.  Look for announcements on our upcoming events web page and/or call the WPH office to arrange for group shoots or to join an upcoming group event.

CAYUGA Lake Duck Blinds

WPH has leased two Duck/Goose blinds on Cayuga lake that can be rented for a daily fee during the Western NY migratory waterfowl seasons.  Additionally, Snow and Canada geese use WPH owned and leased fields.  Hunts for Geese on our facilities can be arranged through the WPH office.

I had an opportunity to hunt from the Whispering Pines duck blind on Cayuga Lake the second day of the current season.  I got set up before daylight and stayed most of the morning.  There were birds flying much of the morning – both ducks and geese.  All of the blinds along that section of lake got some shooting.  On opening morning, this blind was the most productive one at Canoga Farms

The blind - a plywood box on a platform - with a bench and plenty of room for three hunters sits in the lake on the edge of the Canoga Marsh.  I waded to the blind and dragged a rowboat with dog, gun decoys, etc.   The blind is 200 – 300 yards from the access point.  Rowing the boat out is probably easier than wading.

Hunting reservations should be made through Charlie at 315 946 6170 at least 48 hours in advance.

WPH—Duck Ponds

Some have been shooting ducks on our ponds. These are our last year’s breeders which you are welcome to hunt for a morning or late afternoon. That will continue as long as there are breeder ducks left. The last day of March, I invite a handful of gunners in to clear the ponds for the new ducklings.  Contact Charlie to arrange to use the duck ponds for training or hunting during the waterfowl season.

In compliance with federal regulations, Steel Shot, valid hunting license and migratory Waterfowl Stamp are required when hunting the ponds.  Licenses are not required during organized release shoots for ducks.
